A poem written by me *Sarhngel* Entitled : I-am-not-you

I am not you. 
I do not wish to be like you. 
You do not bear the weight of my soul. 

In some ways you have failed me. 
I have to say that. 
Because doing so opens me to the ways I have been denied. 
You didn’t teach me the mother tongue. 
I had to go and learn how to speak French , 
Just to get a little bit of the land you had robbed me from. 

You taught me how to say yes, 
How to nod my head 
You let men who weren’t my father , 
Beat me ,
Abuse me , 
Because you wanted to say yes. 
I release your chaos. 

I am not you. 
I do not wish to be you. 
You do not bear the weight of my soul. 

You do not feel the pain of my fear. 
My terror was unknown to you. 
Because when I told the truth, 
The mask broke, 
And then they saw you for you. 

I went through my own abuse and you were at the root. 

I am not your sunshine. 
I am not your source, 
I am not your angel , 
I am not your grace, 
I am not your slave. 

I am not you, 
I Do not wish to be you. 
You do not bear the weight of my soul. 

I alone stood. 
I alone said no. 
I alone walked away. 
I alone chose how to be safe. 
I alone chose change. 

I am not you. 
I do not wish to be like you. 
You do not bare the weight of my soul .
